Another Reason I Love Macs
BOOTABLE BACKUPS
It’s not possible to do this in windows, but the functionality is offered in Mac OSX and it has served me well quite a few times. Simply put, you can backup your entire laptop/harddrive onto an external drive, grab another computer and boot from that drive. I am currently in the unfortunate position where I both forgot the charger for my laptop and it needs to go in for repair next week to get the speaker fixed. Not a problem!
I backed up the entire laptop using SuperDuper! on an external drive before it ran out of batteries and grabbed my mac mini that I use as a media center in the living and brought it into the office. Booted up the mini while holding down the option key and selected my external drive and there was all my stuff as if I were still using my laptop. I can continue to work from the backup and when the laptop is in working order again I can just use SuperDuper! to restore any new files back to the laptop drive and I’ve successfully continued doing all the work I need to without a single hiccup. GENIUS!
